fantasia...the big suckfest

i feel bad that american idol has to admit that fantasia actually won a season of american idol...along with taylor hicks, ruben studdard and im gonna say it...kris allen...

good riddens on miley and bob marley...buh bye.

lauren needs to stop being a little cry baby...its american idol...everyones gonna leave at one point...theres only one winner...however, her fall down the stairs was quite possibly the best part of the show....i rewound to amuse myself....

Mel's judgements

I love Elton John, so naturally I loved the night. As Mike pointed out, they should have paid Elton however many millions he wanted and let him play the piano for everyone... imagine how good that would have been?? Maybe he'll stop by for tomorrows show... Anyway, my judgements: Scotty: Winner. Of the whole show. Love him. Naima, aka Africa: Craptastic. I don't like her feel at all. A joke. Pia: Love, love, love her voice. So much, that I can almost look beyond her somewhat boring performances. She's got to kick it up a notch, but her voice will carry her almost to the end, and possibly to the final two. Paul: Yawn. Kind of repulsive. Matter of time before he's packing his bags. Lauren: Great voice, liked it. I was actually kind of nervous for her with that song, and thought she pulled it off well. Thia Megia: Bye bye! Casey: Loved it! Jacob Lusk: Goober. Probably won't go home tomorrow, but he's a ticking time bomb. Stefano: I don't really know why, but I've decided I hate him. There's something repulsive about him. He has a nice little voice, but in my opinion he butchered that song. None of them are Elton John, but that just paled in comparison to the original and left me wondering how he's made it this far. Another ticking time bomb, and I wouldn't be the least bit sad to see him ejected tomorrow. Haley: Liked it. I don't know if I'd get on the judges bandwagon of "best performance of the night"... easy. But it was good, her voice is very unique, and I still like her. She just bought herself another week. James: Loved it. Very fun performance, highly entertaining. Judges: Seriously, kick it up a notch. I need a scathing comment, or at least a harsh critique. Their critiques are few and far between, and always followed by ten compliments. Come on, give me something here. Bottom 3 predictions - Paul or Stefano, Thia, and Naima... with Thia and Naima packing.

in my opinion...

my thoughts on this season so far. as i do have to point out ive only seen bits and pieces of the other shows so im probably going to annoy a few of u who have been watching since the beginning...theres nothing worse than having someone jump in halfway through the show calling things as they see it, but....HERE I AM!!! scotty-loved it. love his feel, and love his voice. have decided even if he goes out now we will prob still hear his song on country radio. weird reggae, dreadlock wannabe-crap. crap. crap. was wondering what her feel even was? and how she even made it into the top 11? NOT into the song, the reggae, her hair, or her...nope. stepheNO-boring. i wanted to fast forward my dvr to the next person...tiny dancer? really? your gonna pick that song, which im sorry, is a song where it should be HARD for u to not stick out, and make me wanna listen bc i love it, and i was just bored.... asian miley cyrus wannabe- poop...sounded nasaly, and just meh....too young. needs to go lauren- liked it...was into it, loved the song choice, and her....probably wont win, but thought she was cute, and liked her voice. dress choice? no.,..reminded me of ursula from little mermaid james- was def into it...if you can entertain me, im in...and i was def entertained...kinda all over the place and actually wasnt really even paying too much attention to his voice but i was lovin every minute of it. (mom-doesnt he look like kevin hynes? rob and ants friend???) pia- obviously her voice is a stun, there was no question about that, song choice was great too, but next american idol? im thinkin no. growling benny and the jets girl- i was into it...LOVE that elton song, could be my fav. thought she sang it well too, however phil and i both got a few chuckles on the way she moved around the stage, real gangly and doofus like...def not a great performer. compton man- im sorry, but..... IS AMERICAN IDOL DEAD SERIOUS?!?!?! I couldnt help but go from scared to histerics....phil of course wanted to immediatly fast forward...do i think he has a good voice? sure. is it bizzare as crap? most defintely. not only was i not into his voice, i really wasnt into him...or they way he performed...his eyes were shut the whole performance... whisper, bradly cooper(but not as funny, or good looking) look alike, boy- hated it...my worst performance of the night...found myself wondering how he was in the top 11 as well??? and i literally have no words for his outfit....none. casey-STUN. my fav of the night...loved every moment of it. love him, his voice, and his attitude...and the song was perf for him my bottom 3: stehpaNO...miley cyrus...and bob marley wannabe thank u and goodnight.

A GOOD SHOW....

This will be quick (I think) as I am tired, but I like to do this when it is fresh on my mind...I thought the whole show was VERY entertaining again. I love Elton John's music (who doesn't) so that was good right off. They ALL did really good, and some of them did better than I have ever heard them do, ala Haley and even Thia....But as usual my top choice of the night was Scotty. I LOVE his voice. I like the way he acts. He is just REALLY good in my humble opinion, and thoroughly entertains me. Then I had several others that I almost can't even put in an order....Pia, Casey, Jacob, James, and Stefano. They are ALL stuns....and as I look back on this list, it is probably my order for them as well. I did not like Paul tonight. I am over him...he bugs me in almost every way. Naima is a GIANT NOOOO for me. Just don't like her "thing"....Thia though tonight was the best I have ever heard her do, it just wasn't good enough and she should be going for sure. I am also VERY over Lauren. She "sounded" good tonight, but personally I don't think she connected with her song (I have NEVER seen her connect) and I thought she had silly grins going where she shouldn't have. She is just too young, and will probably eventually be a stun, but she is just not there in my book. Haley was surprising good tonight. I think it was because the song sooo suited her growling way of singing. She did it VERY well....but I am telling you that is all she's got. Here are my bottom 3.....Thia, Paul and Naima....though Lauren or Stefano in there would not surprise me either....going home?? Thia and Naima...my order for how I see them is on the side here... ; )

Current (2011) Hip Chart - Steven Tyler's nose dive

Apologize...

To John, I see now that you in fact have watched and commented on peoples performances. Although, it was in a weird "my comments" thing so it was hard to see. Still, my apologies.

A few things to address...

Number One: Chuck. First of all, quit writing posts only vaguely relating to American Idol. If you're not going to watch the show, get off the blog. Start watching, and maybe then we'll take your scathing posts more seriously. Number Two: Chuck's views on JLO. Fine, with all that evidence, she probably is a diva and a bitch. My thoughts on that? I. dont. care. So how's that? I like her. I like her as an actress, I like her as a singer, and I like her as a judge. As I said to you via text, I'd probably hate 98% of celebrities if I really knew them in real life. All I ask from celebs is that they entertain me. I don't care who they really are, what their political or religious views are, if they're gay or straight, if they're mean, nice, weird, etc. Now, I do have some celebs I hate for my own reasons that probably contradict everything I just said, and everyone is entitled to that. You obviously hate Jennifer Lopez, which is fine. Doesn't shock me, really. Her music is so far from your taste that it isn't even funny. But she HAS had a successful career, whether you think it's justified or not. Although, that "all white" thing in her room is so asinine it may have actually knocked her down a few points in my book. Anyway, I think your rant has fallen on deaf ears because I have a feeling Di, Danae, and mom are all going to be on my page. Start watching the show, then write all the scathing posts you want. Preferably about Thia Megia. Number 3: Casey's Save. Finally, we see the reason behind the Save option! What a shame it would have been if he had gone home. I see people breaking their necks to vote for him in the future to prevent such injustice from occurring again. I don't know if I had it quite to a Daughtry level (still not over that) but it was close. Number 4: Thia. If she doesn't go home next week, I may cry. She's turned into my most hated person.

Throwing cold water on the JLO parade...

I've noticed everyone seems to love JLO. I've had my ups and downs over the years with liking her and not liking her. Bottom line on her is that in real life she's a crappy person. She is notoriously difficult to deal with, and specifically it's the "little guy" type that she clashes with. Camera and makeup assistants, dressing room people, police officers, security people... there are dozens and dozens and dozens of stories that have come out over the years about her, everyone agrees she's just a raging b. She has outlandish demands for her dressing room... everything must be white, from the bottled water to the candles to the candy. There have been numerous times when entire concerts have been held up for hours because JLO refused to get dressed for the show because she noticed the particular brand of honey she wants for her dressing room was wrong. She fires assistants for the slightest things, including supposedly refusing to hire pretty girls as assistants because they take away attention from her. Many of them have gone on to say working for her was a living hell. One of her worse stories was abusing some cops... one time she was filming a movie and decided she just HAD to call her boyfriend, Puff Daddy. Her phone didn't have reception, so she walked up to a cop and demanded to use his phone, saying it was an emergency. She then proceeded to call Puff Daddy, talked to him for 15 to 20 minutes, talking about stupid crap. Eventually the cop asked her to end the call since it obviously wasn't an emergency was tying up a police line... she screamed and yelled at him and called him names, to the point where he had to threaten her with arrest to calm her down. There have been scores, hundreds of accounts of people who have said they've asked her for autographs and have not only been refused, but in many cases cussed at and asked to leave the room.

As for "singing" career, let's get a few things straight. Fact is, she's not a particularly successful singer. Her first couple of albums had a couple of minor hits, but since 2004 or so, her albums don't sell very well and quickly dropped off the charts. That's why she was dropped from her record label. The fact that she has had some success is an example of how someone who can spend money and attract attention can have, with a little talent and a little luck, a brief music career. She spent MILLIONS of dollars having those songs written and produced by the top hitmakers, and MILLIONS of dollars promoting them and advertising her albums. There was so much momentum in terms of dollars spent and promotion that an album of alley cats singing Christmas carols would have ended up selling enough copies to be considered a minor hit. As for the songs, I realize this is subjective, but I think they're crap, the serious music critics think it's crap, and the only people who liked them were kids who quickly moved on to the next big thing. Her "hits" are not treasured pop songs that are still remembered or played. The truth is, she was more in the realm of an Ashlee Simpson type of person, who briefly had a moderate run of success when the whole music biz was behind her, but is now very much a forgotten afterthought. She doesn't sing particularly well... though neither does someone like Britney Spears. But don't mistake her for a Britney, she was never even a shadow of that kind of success.

As for her film career... I will say I think she's not a horrible actress. In fact I've liked her at times. That having been said, again it's a case of all bark and no bite, all smoke and mirrors. She is NOT a movie star. She had a couple of very, very minor hits. Most of her movies lost tremendous amounts of money, in fact a couple of her movies were such spectacular money losers that they bankrupted producers and toppled the studios that released them, to the point where careers were destroyed. Jersey Girl and Gigli cost a combined 15o million to make, and earned back about a combined 5 million. Gigli in particular was one of the worst movies ever made according to many critics, and literally broke records for money losing films. Since 2004 or so they've stopped putting her in lead roles in movies because the simple, unarguable fact is that she's boxoffice poison. If she's in a minor, supporting role the movie has a chance, but if she's the star, no one is going to see the movie. Period. In the last five years she's appeared in six movies, and they all flopped bigtime. So no, she isn't a movie star by any means. What she is a person who was quite famous for a while so Hollywood decided to try and TURN her into a star, but it backfired bigtime.

She has done quite well in other aspects of her career, it must be said.

Bottom line is, she's not a good singer, was never a particularly successful singer either, she isn't a movie star, and she has a reputation as being one of the biggest megalomaniacs and meanest people in show business.

I can already hear everyone rushing to her defense, talking about how you never really know what someone is like, all the stories could be made up, etc. Truth is, stories about her being a spoiled brat started surfacing ten years ago, and they never stopped coming out with new tales of her being a problem. Where there's smoke there's usually fire, and in the case of JLO, there's metric tons of smoke, with sparks and the scent of charred wood everywhere, so there must be fire.

I also have always felt she is racist, I've seen it and heard it from her many times, and in VERY subtle ways I still see it on Idol. She doesn't like white people. She grew up poor in the Bronx, and she's part of that crowd that thinks white people are idiots and uncool and just totally unhip. Disagree with me if you will, but WATCH her in the coming weeks and see if you can see it. I bet you will.

PS

Please note the revised (and far more accurate) order to the contestants.

The Save That Made Sense!!

Wow, I cannot beleive how many posts there are! I'll have to go back and read them later. First, I have to chew this while it's fresh in my mind.....

Can you EVEN believe tonight happened? I'd say it was a Daughtry all over, but I still think Daughtry was even more assinine than Casey tonight. THOUGH, how ridiculous was that? Thia really needed to go home LONG before Casey. What it really equates to is, you cannot just vote for your top few favorites...you need to vote for the people you want to save. Funny thing is though, if I'm honest, I didn't vote for Casey last night and that's the first time since it's started that I haven't .... Regardless, he shouldn't have gone home.

ANYTHING can happen. What amazes me is how emotionally wrapped up in it I am. I was SICK when Thia sat down cause I KNEW Stefano was going. When the showed James wringing his hands waiting I wanted to bawl. For some reason I LOVE James. I cannot bear things going wrong for him. Even his BF Stefano going home.

Gotta wrap this up and read the others.....

SHOCKER!!

WOW!!! SHOCKER!!! I am soo glad that they saved him cuz America just flat out got that wrong....If he was off and Thia and Haley and Paul and Naimi and Lauren still were I just don't think I could have stood it. Sometimes I think people just assume someone is safe for sure and don't vote for them, ala Doughtry....who is responsible of course for American Idol coming up with the save in the first place. Bad part is now they have used it though. But they almost had to. I thought the guy was gonna pass out, haha...

As for the rest of the show....STUN....I LOVE Stevie Wonder, LOVE, LOVE Sugarland, and LOVE LOVE LOVE Jennifer Hudson...Hulk coming out was great too, and I kind of like the Mark Anthony feel. Just all around sooo entertaining.

And so next week, two will go....But I also like that all 11 of them get to go on tour...

My Views........

Really interesting to read everyone's views on the show so far.  I can see we are going to have some very different feelings about all of this and that is what makes this fun!  I agree, Deb, that everyone did pretty good last night.  I, too, loved Scotty's take on the song, but it was not his most stellar performance.  Several people are really stunning and I am not totally sure on who my ultimate pick for the winner will be. So far I have most enjoyed Scotty, James, and  Naimi.  They are the ones that I look forward to seeing perform the most.  I also really like Casey, Jacob and Pia.  It is obvious that they all three have stunning voices.  Stefano is really good, but I am not sure if he is my feel or not.  I don't think Paul's voice is strong enough to compete with the others. Lauren is good, but I don't think she is ready.  As for Thia and Haley....too much really good competition for them to be considered contenders.

I LOVE the judging this year.  JLo is a stun and is a chart topping star with all kinds of advice and tips for the contestants that really add to the  show.  Steven Tyler is hardly a loser by being  judge on the show.  He is a veteran performer and brings a lot to the table.  He and JLo have made a dying show relevant and much more interesting as far as I am concerned.  Personally, I do not miss Simon's pontificating and withering rants in the least.  As for Randy.........same as he ever was, just a few less "Yo's".

TONIGHT WAS A STUN ALL AROUND!

I will start by saying that tonights show was REALLY good in my opinion. I was thoroughly entertained by them all!! I love Motown music as everyone who knows me at all knows....and they all (even Thia who was probably the weakest) did well. That having been said I can honestly tell you I don't even know who I liked the best. Probably Scotty...though not because his was the best, but just because he put that country twist on a motown song and combined my two fav's and I just liked it. Plus I like that song. However, I thought Casey was great, Jacob a stun, James orbital, Pia a stagger, I even really like Paul and Naima tonight. She probably gave her best performance ever for her I thought. Thia is just too robotish....She squeels the Asian girl who has been trained to sing since she was young, and it is just what she does. Her voice is pretty, but that is where it ends...I don't think she is unique, doesn't really have star quality, and is therefore just kind of boring. I think she will go this week. I thought the weakest performance tonight was by Haley. She growls, screams and occasionally does sound good, but I am over her. Lauren was pretty good tonight too, as was Stephano....I don't even know how I would put it in order....I guess I will try....Now this is JUST for tonight's performances. It is not who I want to win (don't know yet) or who I think has the best voice etc. Just how I personally enjoyed their performances tonight.....1. Scotty, 2. Casey 3. James 4. Pia 5. Jacob 6. Stefano 7. Lauren 8. Naima 9. Paul 10. Thia 11. Haley

Beating a dead horse

TEN years of Idol, they're beginning to beat a dead horse. Just a tad.

As I've barely watched so far this year, I can't comment much on the singers. I did tune in a couple of times to see what I thought of the judges though...

1. Steven Tyler... I still think it's sad that he's doing this. 20, or 10, or even 5 years ago he was way too famous/successful to need this dog and pony show. But he got back on the drugs, wrecked his band, and is now on Idol. I can't comment too much on his judging style since I haven't seen too much yet, but from what I saw I agree with Mel, he seems too eager to say something nice to everyone. In my humble opinion, the only thing that ever made Idol entertaining for me to watch was Simon, whose withering, acidic remarks were always top-notch entertainment.

2. JLo... love her as an actress, hate her as a singer, and don't really get why she's even there. She can't sing worth crap, and judging by her own albums she seems to have horrid taste in music.

3. Randy... whatever.

As for Seacrest... or Seaworld, Seaweed, Tsunami or whatever his name is... I hate his guts and don't understand why he's there or what the point of him or his job is. I think the show would be alot better if they gave the judges the extra minute to talk and cut out the crap where Seacrest asks them his brilliant, cutting edge, brilliantly insightful questions... "So how do you think you did? Do you think that went well? So how did you prepare this week?" etc. He moves his lips and sounds come out but it adds nothing to the show, doesn't illustrate anything, and gives zero insight into anything. He may be the most pointless man on television.

The Moment You've All Been Waiting For...

MY thoughts on this seasons American Idol.

So far, my faves are: Pia, Lauren, Terets guy, Scotty Deep Voice, and Casey. Although Casey's butchering of the Nirvana song almost got him ejected from the list. Mom, the song is not "weird," it's great... you just have never heard the original. Casey killed it, and not in a good way.

Most hated: Thia Megia, and African Lady (Naimi? Naoime? African Lady suits her best.)

While she's not a favorite, I kind of like Haley and don't see why everyone hates her. Her voice is very unique and I like it. She was in the bottom three over poop Thia?? Ridiculous.

I felt that Karen's ejection was a tad premature, but it doesn't really matter since we all knew she wouldn't win anyway. And I was sick of her Spanish crap. It was fine the first time, good even, but did she have to whip into it every week? She drilled the nail in her own coffin there. No habla espanol, Karen.

JUDGES: I like JLo, she's a true professional and gives helpful tips. And always looks like a stun. I agree with dang near everything Randy says. Mom, I know you like Steven Tyler, but I personally think he's a bizarre judge. He rarely has anything helpful to say, and he almost always sings their praises, somewhat oddly, even when they don't deserve it. My least favorite. Stick to singing, Steven. I'll leave him a little room to redeem himself since I haven't been watching for long, but I doubt he will pull it off.

The bottom line is that Simon's absence has left a gaping hole in the heart of American Idol. The show will go on, people will still watch, it will still be good.... but it's not the same. I, for one, miss Simon.

We really need to get everyone back posting here.... I was reading back over our old ones and practically made myself sick from laughter.

RESULTS

Well can't say I was surpried....however, had she sung like she did tonight last night she probably wouldn't have gone. It was one of the best I have ever heard her do. I just think main stream America probably didn't like the Spanish and English flip flops either. I don't think it should have been her. Either Haley or mainly Naima should have gone first, though it doesn't really matter as none of them will be the winner anyway. However, I think only the top ten go on tour, so now Karen is out of it. Oh well, another bites the dust. I am now going to rearrange my fav's, removing Karen altogether, haha...

LOVE the Idol blog!

Good work Deb.

Last night wasn't as good as others. It amazes me how I can swing from one singer to another just based on one performance. Stefano was an absolute STUN last night in my opinion. You're right Deb, James wasn't what last week was, but how could it be?!! Pia was vocally a stun, but she's a bit....boring. I'll always love Lauren but again you're right Deb, her silly girl act is wearing thin, (even though I don't think it's an act)

Casey was out there, but I love him. How mortifying for Haley with the lipstick all over her face!
Spanish girl needs to go home, and Paul was....ok.

My prediction for bottom three: Thia, Spanish girl, and Haley.

SUM UP OF TONIGHTS SHOW....

Welp here goes....I didn't think tonight was quite as good as last week, HOWEVER there were some good performances...Here is my run down... My favorite of the night was Scotty (deep voice)...I just love his voice and that kind of music I think so he just draws me. I also like his personality and think he is just kind of cute. Then my next favorite was Casey as weird as that song was...and it WAS weird. Didn't really like it at all, but as usual I think he sang it REALLY well. I honestly think he is the most talented of the group. For me number three was Stefano. His voice is just a stun, and I love the song he did. I have liked him from the VERY beginning and was stunned when he wasn't voted in by America and had to come as a wild card. Plus he is just darling in looks and personality. Number four was James...not his best, but last weeks was hard to beat. I am REALLY starting to like his personality too. He is a VERY likeable guy. Then was Pia. Her's was good, but it wasn't as good (in my opinion) as her other's have been. It may have been that she didn't sound as good as Whitney singing that. But then remember, Whitney is probably my all time favorite singer. No one can touch her in my opinion (except of course Barbara Streisend)...Then was Jacob. His was REALLY good as always, but again, he has sounded better in the past. Next, was Paul. I have decided I DEFINITELY really like his voice, and as long as I don't have too look at him, it is even better. Lauren was probably next. But she was not as good as the judges gave her credit for I didn't think, and her whole air head silly girl thing is starting to wear thin. Next would be Thia...her voice was really good, but Randy was right, the song and performance were boring. Then, Karen (Spanish girl).... She sounded MUCH better than last week. Nothing great, but definitely improved. Then would be Haley (growler) Her's was OK...she is just too pitchy. Sometimes she sounds REALLY good, and others, she is WAY off. And bringing up the rear for me tonight was Naima. She just didn't sound good I didn't think. Both kind of screechy at times and pitchy. I think she is in the most danger. I see the bottom three as Haley, Thia or Karen (one or the other) and Naima....

It is STILL way too early to predict, and honestly I haven't really picked who I want yet. Pia, Casey, Scotty, James, Stefano, and Jacob are the top five contenders in my opinion. ; ) OH! And I think JLo is definitely the best judge the show has ever had. It is soo obvious that she both a singer and a performer that KNOWS what she is talking about and really gives everyone good tips.

Congrats Debbie You Did It

I will have to keep your mother off this blog until the week end. After she and Katie have seen the recordings

AMERICAN IDOL TIME AGAIN!!

I am soo looking forward to tonights show!! How I love it....It has two things I love most in a reality TV show..Singing a WIDE variety of music, and then MY crique of it, haha...I personally think this year will be one of the best as soo many of the contestants can sing sooo well. So welcome to the official idol chew blog again. Spread the word and maybe be can get the others to participate again. I thought it would be fun if week by week as someone is eliminated, we will take their pic off the side, lol. OH! And for now, they are listed in order of MY personal choices... ; ) ENJOY!!
