my comments

8 comments:

  1. Guy with the beard who sang grape vine: he sounds a lot like John Fogerty, only not as good.

Asian girl who sang heat wave: crap.

Black guy who sang you're all I need to get by: I thought it was over produced and not interesting. He sang well but I was very much left with a "so what?" feeling. Also, he reminds me too much of Bubba from Forrest Gump.

Blonde girl who sang keep me hanging on: she sang it wrong. Its not a pretty song that's supposed to sound beautiful in that way, its supposed to sound like she's really done with the guy, and she sang it like she's hoping the guy will change his mind. Didn't work for me at all.

Mexican-looking guy who sang hello: I found this an odd choice of song. I like the song, but my brain has a hard time categorizing it as Motown. He's a good enough singer, but again, I felt he sang it wrong. The difference between a kid who can sing really well vs. a real artist is that a real artist is that a real artist "gets" that the song is about a mood, not just a showcase for the singers staggering talent. The judges actually agreed with me on him, though they used less critical language.

Blonde girl who sang really got a hold on me: my personal fave of the night. She's one of the few who "sang a song" as opposed to just performing a performance. And she mostly pulled it off. Randy and Steven liked her, and this could just be me, but I feel like JLo secretly hates white girls... Her comments subtly betray it.

Little kid who sang for once in my life: wow, that voice coming out of that kid is unreal... Its this skinny little child with this baritone that sounds like a vibration from the middle of the earth! Very well sang, I thought he was by far the best male of the night. This being my very first time hearing these contestants, I'd vote for this kid to win the whole thing, though he probably won't. Wow he is good. (again I noted JLos stealthy racism.)

Brunette who sang all in love is fair: she oversang it. Good voice, but so what? Quite pointless.

Guitar guy who sang tracks of my tears: disgusting. He's going for a wimpy Jason Mraz type of sound and it repulsed me... Mediocre voice and totally boring performance. Go away.

Weird black girl who sang dancin in the streets: for starters she was off the beat by half a bar till the middle of the song... Nice voice and she's a good physical performer, which is very rare for idol contestants. That dance was a bit asinine though and felt very tacked on... I'd say she's a good performer in the making, but isn't ready to be pulled out of the oven yet. I now hate JLo officially... She's judging everyone with a mirror... The more similar they are to her, the more she likes them.

Big ear kid who sang Stevie wonder: a polished turd. You don't admire the polish, its still a turd.

This was my first real glimpse of this group, and I'd say all in all they're not bad. My faves would be Haley and Scott.... Wow that Scott is something.

I still think the judges are not as good this year. Its kind of pointless to talk about how much Simon added to the show that is missing now, but I definitely feel that Simon "was" the show and now the judges just try to get out of the way of the performances and compliment them, and that makes it a much less interesting show. Simon made the show halfassed "smart" and now its just not...

  2. Well, I will agree with you that Scotty is amazing. So far he is my pic as well. The problem with jumping in where you have is that you don't know that is all Haley can do. She needs to go in my book. And I think you have James as a turd and that is just WRONG too. He too can really sing. You will have to watch more to be more credible. And I LOVE LOVE JLO...she is not about white girls. And Simon is only missed occasionally in my opinion as I usually agreed with what he said, just not how he said it. He was an ass, and an ass is NEVER MISSED....in my opinion....

  3. Well he's missed by some, because ratings are down this year, big time. The season premier was 13% lower than last year, and week over week they've lost anywhere from 10 to 15% from last year, which was down from the year before that already. Point being, I'm not the only one who feels like Simon was a huge part of the show.

  4. It amazes me the way you can stir up a need to be heard...and even to debate (John)

Along the line of the Jennifer critique, I can't say I LOVE her, or any other star for that matter if I have to take into account who they are in "real life". Let's face it, not many would be acceptable.

In terms of her on the show, I do like her. She is amazingly beautiful, has some good advice, and does in fact compliment other girls on their appearance.

As far as her being prejudiced, I whole heartedly agree. She put thru 3 people to the original 24 that should have gone and frankly, my opinion was just that - they weren't white.

Simon, he is missed, and I agree he did say it like it was, however said it far too rudely. He went overboard many many times.

  5. Omg, I'm so happy someone else agrees with me about Haley!! I like her too, and be prepared for everyone on here to hate on her.
And LOL about jacob looking like Bubba from Forest Gump! He does, and while he has a good voice, just rubs me the wrong way.

  6. I did think Haley was good. I noticed mom said she didn't like her.

Danae, I have no idea what "It amazes me the way you can stir up a need to be heard...and even to debate (John)" means. Perhaps you could clarify. I will note that you basically agreed with everything I said, so how annoyed could you have possibly been?

  7. I meant that as pointless as it is, for whatever reason when you post something w/a heated opinion, if I disagree, (and who REALLY cares anyway) I feel this burning need to speak up and post my own feelings on the subject.

I did disagree with you on JLO. As pointed out in my comment back to Mel's post, she said it perfectly right and I in being incredibly lazy, really didn't explain myself very well.

Lastly, I wasn't really annoyed about anything per se, just felt like I needed to spout off my own opinion.

  8. I said alot of bad crap about JLO, but really I don't mind her that much. To me she's just kind of ... eh, whatever. See my next post for a more in-depth look at my feelings on Steven Tyler.
