Mel's judgements

I love Elton John, so naturally I loved the night. As Mike pointed out, they should have paid Elton however many millions he wanted and let him play the piano for everyone... imagine how good that would have been?? Maybe he'll stop by for tomorrows show... Anyway, my judgements: Scotty: Winner. Of the whole show. Love him. Naima, aka Africa: Craptastic. I don't like her feel at all. A joke. Pia: Love, love, love her voice. So much, that I can almost look beyond her somewhat boring performances. She's got to kick it up a notch, but her voice will carry her almost to the end, and possibly to the final two. Paul: Yawn. Kind of repulsive. Matter of time before he's packing his bags. Lauren: Great voice, liked it. I was actually kind of nervous for her with that song, and thought she pulled it off well. Thia Megia: Bye bye! Casey: Loved it! Jacob Lusk: Goober. Probably won't go home tomorrow, but he's a ticking time bomb. Stefano: I don't really know why, but I've decided I hate him. There's something repulsive about him. He has a nice little voice, but in my opinion he butchered that song. None of them are Elton John, but that just paled in comparison to the original and left me wondering how he's made it this far. Another ticking time bomb, and I wouldn't be the least bit sad to see him ejected tomorrow. Haley: Liked it. I don't know if I'd get on the judges bandwagon of "best performance of the night"... easy. But it was good, her voice is very unique, and I still like her. She just bought herself another week. James: Loved it. Very fun performance, highly entertaining. Judges: Seriously, kick it up a notch. I need a scathing comment, or at least a harsh critique. Their critiques are few and far between, and always followed by ten compliments. Come on, give me something here. Bottom 3 predictions - Paul or Stefano, Thia, and Naima... with Thia and Naima packing.

  1. See Mel you agree with me... Simon is missed.

If people want to pretend SImon wasn't the show, I'll shut up and go along with it, but I'm sorry Simon was the show. There's nothing entertaining about watching ten mediocre singers, you could get that from any radio station any old time. What makes the show fun is critiquing the contestants, and that does mean shredding the bad ones to smithereens. And no one was better at it than Simon. If all you're going to do is compliment everyone in a golly-gee kind of way, the show just becomes incredibly stupid.

You can walk into any bar or nightclub or cruiseship where there's live music and find an unknown singer who on any night of the week in any nameless small town who could demolish 99.9% of these contestants. They don't need to be fawned over.

  2. I've been waving my Simon flag since the beginning of this season! I believe I wrote on here that his absence was like "a gaping hole in the heart of American Idol." It's just not the same, and it's sad. If they could at least get a one judge in there that could be harsh from time to time it would really spruce up the show. Instead we have 3 softies up there passing out gold stars for participating.
